
Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University Anantapur (JNTUA) is a prominent state university located in Anantapur, Andhra Pradesh, India. Established on August 18, 2008, following the bifurcation of the original Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU) into four independent institutions, JNTUA has its roots in the College of Engineering Anantapur, which was founded in 1946 under the post-World War II reconstruction program. The college initially operated in Guindy, Madras, before relocating to Anantapur in 1948 .
Academically, JNTUA offers a diverse range of undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programs in disciplines such as engineering, science and technology, pharmaceutical sciences, and management . The university is committed to delivering quality education, fostering innovative research, and providing consultancy services, aiming to empower its stakeholders to compete globally.
Governance of the university includes the Chancellor (the Governor of Andhra Pradesh), Vice-Chancellor, Rector, Executive Council, and Academic Senate. As of February 2025, Prof. Hanchate Sudarsana Rao serves as the Vice-Chancellor.
JNTUA has been recognized for its academic excellence, consistently ranking among the leading technical universities in India. In the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2024, it was placed in the 151–200 band among engineering colleges.
