BLDE (Deemed to be University) is established in 2008 in Northern Karnatka, with ‘Shri B. M. Patil Medical College, Hospital & Research Centre’ as its constituent unit (Est. 1986). The Sponsoring Society, BLDE Association, is a 114-year-old Education Society running more than 80 Institutions. The university came into existence with the sole objective of providing quality Medical Education and meeting the healthcare needs of the people in this backward region of North Karnataka. It has a unitary campus of 71.2 acres with 26 departments and a teaching hospital with 1338 beds. A highly equipped Casualty facility and Trauma Centre were added to the Hospital.

The University is also offering UG and PG Programmes under the School of Allied Health Sciences, School of Physiotherapy, School of Applied Science & Technology and School of Law.
