BLDE (Deemed to be University) is one of the reputed universities in Karnataka providing education in medical and allied health sciences. Housed in a sprawling campus at Vijayapura (erstwhile Bijapur) in Karnataka, it was declared a University under Section 3 of the UGC Act 1956, and approved by the Ministry of Human Resource Development in the year 2008. It has been established under BLDE Association, a renowned century old educational society, running more than 80 institutions in the state.

The constituent college of the BLDE (Deemed to be University), Shri B M Patil Medical College Hospital & Research Centre, Vijayapura, was established in the year 1986 by BLDE Association (Bijapur Lingayat District Educational Association).
